Spa Reviews

I bought a voucher via 'Groupon' website which was £225 for a standard room, use of spa facilities and spa gift. (no treatments included) This was for my partners birthday so we were offered a room upgrade on arrival. Which was offered via email before our visit, when asking if i wanted to add treatments to my stay.

I heard amazing things about Champneys and how it was known to be one of the spa providers in the UK. However i was sadly disappointed.

"Located in Hampshire, Forest Mere is framed by 160 acres of enchanting woodland and sweeping greens. Positioned next to a tranquil lake, our nature-filled grounds are a picture-perfect calming oasis that will lift your spirits and soothe your senses."

On the drive in, it was breathtaking. So much beautiful land surrounding the property. A relaxing feel as you drive in and pass the lake and come round to the free car park at the rear.

The house seemed a little dated but it added to its country charm as we entered. There was a welcome drink as we waited at reception, the queue was excessive and it took 25 minutes to get us checked in.

The site is huge, and it was very pretty inside with wooden detailing down the walls towards our room. When i got inside our room i was very disappointed as we didn't get the room upgrade we were promised before. The room was very small and very dated and the bathroom was very basic and again very small. It didn't live up to the Champneys hype that you hear of. I went back to reception who they stated it was not possible to do the upgrade now as there was only suites left and the upgrade for only for a superior room. I had to wait a further 20 minutes for a manager to talk to, leaving my partner in the room alone.

The manager said an upgrade shouldn't have been offered as no rooms were available and refused to upgrade us further, even though the suites were empty and was a special Occassion. I wouldn't have been bothered, but the upgrade was offered so i felt let down on arrival.

He offered us a free 30 minutes session in the hydrotherapy pool, which they charge extra for! So that pool is not included in the standard spa packages. I have never come across a hydro pool you have to pay to use before on a spa day. He also said some chocolates and a bottle of bubbly would be sent to our room as an apology so i accepted and went on with my day.

The pool area was nice, but the pool needed a little clean and updating as lots of tiles had come off in certain places. The Jacuzzi was nice, but small for the size of the spa. The lighting in the jacuzzi / shower was really cool and the rainforest pod showers were interesting to use.

The hydro pool was nice, but you have to book in within a group and are told to go around the pool to experience all the different jets. I wouldn't have paid for that experience.

There was a nice outdoor pool we got to us, and a relaxation room that overlook sit outside, where we took time to chill and take a nap. It felt very cosy and was one of our favourite spots.

We had lunch, which was very basic again for the standard of Champneys and the set menu was very small so wasn't much choice. No cocktails only wine. We weren't full up from lunch.

After lunch we returned to use some of our favourite bits in the spa facilities, later on in the day it was much quieter and peaceful. Our dinner was again very limited from a set menu, but we enjoyed that more than our lunch.

When we came back to our room to get ready for dinner however the free gift of bubbly and chocolates never arrived and when we asked at reception the manager had gone home. So this was again another anti climax.

I enjoyed parts of this spa break but over all was extremely stressful and had to leave a formal complaint on departure which amounted to nothing anyway. At reception i also asked abut our free spa gift as we didn't receive anything, to find out it was the hydro pool. So the hydro pool was i fact not a free gift but a gift we already paid for as part of our package and wasn't informed about at check in. This was a massive over site.

I got a follow up email with an apology, but no discount voucher or a chance to come back to experience the spa again. I wouldn't recommend based on my spa stay. The site has the potential for a good stay, but i would only recommend the higher value rooms and don't expect too much from customer a service point of view.

Based in Colchester - Kingsford Park Health Club is situated within a magnificent Georgian building.

I booked a spa day with my Mum for mothers day for £149 (£74.50 each). Including x2 treatments each. (one treatment for 30 mins, one for 25 mins) There was not an option to combine the time into 1 treatment.

Free parking is available on site and the grounds are quite pretty as you drive up. There was outside seating around the back of the House, but the weather did not permit us to use this space.

On entering the House, the reception seemed very basic and just looked like a gym reception. Staff were very friendly and informed us we had to pay £8 for our spa bag, which included a towel, robe and flip flops. This wasn't refundable, but you get to keep your flip flops.

To the left was a little casual cafe area where you could grab a coffee or small snack. There is a large cafe on site, again this is cafe was quite relaxed with people dining in their robes. It was like a conservatory extension which was quite nice as you got to see out to the grounds whilst brunching or lunching :)

The Pool itself was stunning, with a wooden ceiling, beams and large open windows again onto the grounds. The Pool area is a modern twist on the country feel. It has a sauna, steam room and a lovely hydro pool and behind a small Jacuzzi. My only critique is that the Jacuzzi needed to be bigger but the hydro pool is big enough to use instead.

There was not enough loungers for everyone who was using the spa, so some people had to use chairs. However the pool facilities were one of the best i have seen from the Bannatyne collection.

Food was not included in this package. We had a 2 course lunch which was standard, nothing too special about the food and no cocktails to offer just wine or bubbly. Wait times were a little long but the cafe was full for lunch service. There was an option to add afternoon tea if you wanted, which did look quite nice.

I had a 30 minute Elemis Facial, this was super relaxing and the lady was very mindful of my sensitive skin. My mum also had the same treatment and was also very pleased. Later on in the day we had a 25 min back, neck and shoulder massage. We both agreed that the facial was much better. When waiting for your treatment it was very busy and did make you feel like you were on a bit of line up. However you get what you pay for and obviously they cram as many in as they can on the deals.

There was a choice of two relaxation rooms to use after your treatments. The hot stone beds were fabulous, I spent a lot time here relaxing but was always busy and some people like to chatter which did get annoying in a quiet room. There was also some water beds if you fancied a little nap, these seemed to be in use all the time so didn't get to them.

Overall i did really enjoy myself and did get a chance to relax and i really enjoyed the pool area, swimming up to large window over looking the green adds a unique feel. I would return, but probably a week day or evening package so it is not so busy next time.

Aqua Sana - Centre Parcs Longleat - 8/10

Aqua Sana - Centre Parcs Longleat - 8/10

What an experience!

"Aqua Sana has five spa zones and 24 different nature-inspired spa experiences, from the atmospheric Forest Cavern to the calming Moonlight Steam Room."

I booked an over night stay at the Longleat Spa for £465. You can access the spa from 9am - 9pm on both your first and second day. So you can really experience all aspects of the spa, and there is a lot to explore. This doesn't include treatments so i had to book them on top.

From steam baths to shower walks, herbal inhalation rooms to hot springs, take a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool or drift off in one of our specially designed relaxation or meditation areas. There is so much to pick from.

Obviously driving into centre parcs is always busy, but thats to be expected for such a large and busy complex. We stayed in an apartment which was a 20 min walk from the spa facility itself. It would have been nice if it was a little closer or accommodation was on the same site as the spa. You are using the centre parcs apartments.

The apartment was average, could use a little update. However, it was clean and spacious enough for 2 people. You have a little balcony that overlooks the forest.

As soon as you enter the spa, staff are super friendly and talk you through every aspect. It looked impressive from the outside and has a long path which is lit up at night.

The spa site is pretty big and split over 2 floors. It is quite busy but with so many rooms to pick from, there is always something to try. The in door is beautiful and has a little jacuzzi area. There were 2 external hot tubs, these do get very busy especially at night. As we stayed over we got to experience the spa in the day and in the evening. i highly recommend trying to visit or use in the evening, quiet and so pretty with all the lights on, feels very 'twighlty'.

The pool is in the centre and as you walk round, there are 22 rooms spread out to experience, from the volcanic sauna, the ice room, places to sleep or rest and a forest cave.

I LOVED THEM ALL! some rooms were more impressive than others. The only room needing a little clean was the steam room.

You get a free robe and as many towels as you need in the changing rooms if you leave and come back. A light lunch was provided in the vitale cafe they have on site. A relaxing , clean space that fitted the theme of spa nicely.

We were offered a glass of free bubbly each as we came for a special occasion so that was a nice gesture.

We had a voucher of £50 to put towards any restaurant on site. As you are within the centre parcs complex, there is more than enough to pick from. We has a curry and was very nice.

The next morning, breakfast was yummy and fresh back at the vitale cafe. Lunch time at the spa is really busy so just bare that in mind, it didn't feel crowded which was good.

On our second day we had a 55 minute treatment each , I had a Pro-Glow Elemis facial which cost £99. My therapist was so kind as my skin is very sensitive and she used some new products on me. One of them being the papaya enzyme peel which i still buy and use to this day thanks to my facial. My partner had a Sweedish back massage which is said was 9/10 too. This also cost an extra £99. So in total cost £663 with treatments.

We also got another glass of bubbly after our treatments whilst relaxing in the after care treatment room.

I enjoyed both days. I was glad to get another day to go back and visit my favourite saunas, and relaxation before we drove home. I left really super relaxed.

The parking is right next to the spa  (and free obviously) which is handy for when you leave on your 2nd day. I would 100% go back for a spa day! But maybe not an overnight stay as the apartments were only average.

Great for a girls pamper day or special occasion. Recommend a spa day or twighlight evening. This is a great spa for multiple experiences and a full day visit!

Rowhill Grange Utopia Spa - Dartford - 9//10

Rowhill Grange Utopia Spa - Dartford - 9//10

Well what can i say! I was blown away when i came here with my partner. It really held up its name of "an award winning spa"

I booked a 1 night stay the hotel with 40 minute treatments each, full use of facilities and a dinner voucher of £40 per person to use towards their in house RGs restaurant. This had to be booked on a Sunday but that was fine for us. (They have many similar packages if you need to come within the week)

Set in the Kentish countryside is a beautiful 4 star hotel and utopia spa. Which can be hired for events or weddings. It had a beautiful drive up to the establishment, which was well kept and really set the scene.

"Utopia is a spa destination like no other. Featuring nineteen treatment rooms including two couple's treatment rooms, iconic Romanesque split-level pools, saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and more'

Reception staff were super friendly on arrival and parking on site was not an issue. Free parking and more than enough parking space for this boutique hotel.

Hotel was super cute from the outside, and inside was very clean and more modern then i expected. We were upgraded to a luxury king room, i only paid for a comfort king size room which cost me £419 (package). The upgraded room was worth £475. So a cheeky saving of £56.

(Rooms available from Double to a Private Master Suite)

I was blown away with our room. A king bed, beautiful modern design, large free standing bath and shower. Our room was at the end of hotel over looking the garden, which felt private and had a great view. We also had a complimentary bottle of fizz in our room which was a lovely touch.

The treatments were super!! i had a 40 minute facial and my partner had a 40 minute back, neck and shoulder massage. Treatment rooms were very clean and very smart. Nice dim lighting so you can really relax. Felt very premium. After your treatment refreshments were available and you were also allowed to used the relaxation room after. The products used were Temple Spa. I hasn't heard of this brand before, but i was not disappointed with my results and products smelt lovely.

The pools were beautiful and decorated in a roman fashion, making them unique. Downstairs a smaller hydrotherapy pool with loungers and a large jacuzzi area. Upstairs a larger swimming pool. The facilities were not crowded and again felt very premium and has a different feel if you are used to visiting spas.

Dinner was an amazing experience, with £80 towards our dinner we had a 3 course meal and cocktails. (2-AA Rosette Laid-Back Luxury Restaurant). We then retired to the lounge for more cocktails. We did spend more than £80 budget, but it was well worth it. I loved the blue theme :)

Overall i can honestly say i was blown away. The boutique feel didn't feel over packed with too many treatments packed in, and there was always space by the pool area.  I would 100% return and try a new package next time. I would highly recommend to any one after a spa day or break in the Kent area. Has a premium feel, a little something special.

Bannatyne Health Club and Spa - Leicester - 3/10

Bannatyne Health Club and Spa - Leicester - 3/10

Overly this is a place to go for a treatment, not a relaxing spa day.

I booked an evening relaxation package - for £44.50

This included a 40 minute facial and use of the spa facilities. (pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna)

On arrival it was very busy being that it is situated right in centre of Leicester on a main ring road. There is parking available right behind the spa (multi story parking) however the spa doesn't validate the parking. Which i think is very poor when you have booked a spa day. Parking is £3.95 per hour. So for a 4 hour spa evening you will need to budget another £15.80 on top for the parking.

As i walked in, it just felt like a standard gym. I soon realised it is basically a gym with just allocated rooms for treatments. It didn't have a relaxing feel as you walked in, but extremely busy with many people walking in and out to use the gym.

Reception service was basic at best, and i was then charged a £18 for a spa bag, which wasn't disclosed in the booking either. You get a robe, flip flops and one small towel. You get £10 back as long as you return the robe and towel. So you pay £8 to hire the items and get to keep the flip flops. So in total it cost £65.35.

There is also no cafe or place to eat or drink or site, this meaning also no welcome drink on arrival. There is no luxury feel about this spa location. I would have been very disappointed to have booked a full 8 hour spa day and have to leave to go find food else where and come back.

The Elemis facial was lovely, as expected. The therapists are lovely and take the time to talk you through your skin type, select suitable products and make you feel comfy. No water was offered however.

Treatment lasted the full time. Elemis products always a winner! but the treatment rooms were a little out dated. The lights were not dimmed during the treatment which made it a little hard to relax with 8 bright lights above you.

Lots of banging around in cupboards as products were not ready to hand on the side. You can also hear the roads outside during your treatment.

The pool was very basic and super busy. Jacuzzi was packed and didn't get a chance to even use it. Steam room didn't look clean and overall facilities needed updating and painting. I only stayed at the pool for 30 mins as was very disappointed.

On leaving they forgot to give me my free eye mask, so i had to wait 10 minutes for someone to get this for me.

If you want a quick treatment in the city and you are not noise sensitive, then this would be a fine pick. But if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing spa day this is NOT the place to go.
